Maxtone 5 pc Drum Set Reviews 4

I got it from a little music store here in Lima, Peru for $310, it's a standard 5pc set, it came with un cymbal stand (and a crash), hi hat stand (with hi-hats), a sanre stand and a pair of red zildjian 5A drumsticks.

I bought this as my first kit, instead of a pearl forum or mapex V, to save for a semipro drumset. The things i like the most are the bass drum, snare drum (although it has some cons),the floor tom and the crash cymbal. I got remo usa drumheads for all the kit, so i improved the sound a lot, but the standard heads were acceptable too. The floor tom (16x16)has a low and powerful sound that i love, the bass drum (22x17)is pretty good too, it's really punchy, and complements the snare perfectly, the snare drum (6.5x14 steel) itself sounds pretty tight and cuts through the mix perfectly. Last week i bought a set of paiste 302 cymbals, that are also pretty good too, so now i'm using the paistes and the maxtone crash.

Mostly the bassdrum pedal, that has a good feel, but it scratches the drumhead when i play, so i prefer not to use to play a hard beat, but i'm going to buy a pulse double pedal soon so there's no problem. The tom-toms (12x10 and 13x11) aren't really good either, although they get the job done, i they're kind of too dry or something like that. Finally, the snare wires rattle a little too much and it has a weird sound right after youu hit it (like something very little was loose inside).

The finish is black, and until now (it's been like 2 months since i bought them kit) it hasn't gotten any scrathches or anything. I'm not sure what kind of wood it's made of but it looks very good. The tom-tom mounting system is very easy to adjust and to place the toms right where you want them, but it's kind of weak, so the tom's don't always stay where you left them and sometimes the touch something and rattle while i play, but i can solve that easyly.

The kit is pretty good for the price and has a nice sound, the hardware is double braced, but not so strong either, but it gets the job done. The most annoying thing wold be the drum pedal. If you're just starting, it's a nice kit to get.
